The sportsman is as new unfired, very nice yet inexpensive version of 700 rem did in the 80's. Now I want to sell the 78 Sportsman, but I really don't think the stock adds any value, even though it is amazing and took me 40 hours of work. I have since taken a dremel to the plain-jane sportsman stock, fitted it to a 721 I had, so no going back on that. I kept my eyes open for a gun to put it on, I ended up putting it on a 78 Sportsman for lack of anything better. Years later I put countless hours into stripping and sanding, put about 7 coats of true oil on it and the thing looks amazing. I could barely make out what looked to be a unique piece of wood underneath, so I bought it for $10 or so. Was scratched to heck, chips in the gloss everywhere.

I came across an older rem 700 Stock at a yard sale years ago.
